Still thinking of Shulian, smiling to myself in quiet moments at the office as I recall random moments from working alongside and knowing her. In the year since she left, I've lost count the number of times during conversations with friends or colleagues that I've made a point starting with the words, "I knew a Chinese girl who told me once that..." Then some unique bit of wisdom, logic or terrific insight would follow and duly impress the person to whom I was speaking. I suspect I'll be using that phrase countless times more and for many, many years to come. So I do look forward to those quiet moments when she pops in my mind to say hello. She's always there, still, to give me advice, help me work better, and to make me smile. That was, and continues to be, Shulian.
